RESPECTED STAKEHOLDERS FROM OKPANAM COMMUNITY MAKE AN APPEAL OVER THE CONTINUOUS DETENTION OF JEFFERY MORDI

IBUSA: The Executive Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Innocent Esewezie, on Monday 6th of July 2026 received a delegation of respected Okpanam community in Oshimili North LGA who appealed for a peaceful resolution of the legal issues surrounding the detention of the Councillor representing Okpanam, Ward 9, Hon. Jeffrey Mordi, over the removal of the Legislative Mace.

Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Esewezie commended the delegation for pursuing dialogue and reaffirmed his commitment to peace. He stressed, however, that the Legislative Mace is the official symbol of the authority and integrity of the Legislative Arm, insisting that the matter will be amicably resolved only if the Councillor returns the Symbol of Legislative Authority, The Mace. He added that respect for democratic institutions and the rule of law must remain paramount.

Also present were the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Henry Olowo, the immediate past Leader, Hon. Chris Nwamgbor, and the Clerk of the House, Mr. Benedict Agboje. They recounted the events surrounding the leadership crisis, alleging that the chambers were invaded by thugs and that the Clerk was compelled under duress to administer an oath of office without the Legislative Mace, contrary to the House Standing Rules.

Responding, the Okpanam delegation expressed concern over the seriousness of the allegations, admitting they were unaware of their full implications. They pledged to engage the councillor and encourage him to take the necessary steps toward resolving the matter, while appealing for justice to be tempered with mercy. The meeting ended with both parties expressing optimism that the issue would be resolved peacefully and lawfully in the interest of unity, stability, and continued progress in Oshimili North.
