OSHIMILI NORTH SECURITY WORKSHOP COMMENCES AS GOVERNOR OBOREVWORI REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO GRASSROOTS SECURITY
The Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday, 26 June 2026, officially declared the Oshimili North Local Government Security Workshop with the theme “Enhancing Grassroots Security Through Strategic Partnership and Community Engagement” open, describing the initiative as a bold, timely and strategic intervention aimed at strengthening grassroots security and promoting lasting peace across the local government area.
In his welcome address, the Executive Chairman of Oshimili North LGA, Hon. Chief Innocent Esewezie, reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to building a safer and more secure Oshimili North through strategic partnerships with conventional security agencies, local vigilante groups and active community participation. He noted that meaningful development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and security, stressing that the workshop marks the beginning of a more coordinated and proactive approach to safeguarding lives and property throughout the local government.
The workshop also provided the platform for the official inauguration the newly established Oshimili North Local Government Security Watch, following the successful transmission and passage of the Executive Bill establishing the outfit by the Legislative Arm of the Council.
In further demonstration of his administration’s commitment to the welfare of security personnel, Hon. Chief Esewezie announced a comprehensive welfare package for the 150 operatives of the newly inaugurated Security Watch. The package includes enrollment into the Delta State Contributory Health Scheme as well as life insurance coverage through a reputable insurance company, ensuring improved healthcare access and enhanced social protection for the operatives and their families.
The Governor who was ably represented by the Director-General of Security Matters, Hon. David Tonwe, performed the official opening ceremony at the Akwukwu-Igbo Town Hall, where he commended the Executive Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government, Hon. Chief Innocent Esewezie, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.
Delivering the Governor’s goodwill message, Hon. Tonwe emphasized that security remains the bedrock of sustainable development. He praised the Council Chairman for convening security agencies, traditional rulers, President-Generals, youth leaders and other critical stakeholders to develop practical and collaborative solutions to emerging security challenges confronting communities within the local government.
As part of the Governor’s support for strengthening community security architecture, Hon. Tonwe presented motorcycles, bulletproof vests, walkie-talkies, security boots, raincoats and other operational equipment to indigenous security outfits in Oshimili North. He urged other local government councils across Delta State to emulate the Oshimili North model, describing the workshop as a practical demonstration of the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to community-based security, collaborative policing and the MORE Agenda.
The workshop attracted wide participation from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Fire Service, traditional rulers, community leaders, President-Generals, youth organizations, civil society groups and other stakeholders, all united in their shared commitment to strengthening security, promoting peace and fostering sustainable development across Oshimili North Local Government Area.
