HON. ESEWEZIE INAUGURATES MARKET ALLOCATION COMMITTEE, CHARGES MEMBERS TO UPHOLD FAIRNESS AND TRANSPARENCY

Akwukwu-Igbo, Delta State — Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
The Executive Chairman of Oshimili North, Hon. Chief Innocent Esewezie, has formally inaugurated the Market Allocation Committee at the Council Secretariat, Akwukwu-Igbo.

The Committee is established to function as both an advisory and implementation body, tasked with ensuring the proper allocation, monitoring, and regulation of stalls and open trading spaces across all government-recognized markets within the Local Government Area.

Addressing members during the inauguration, Hon. Esewezie charged the Committee to ensure equitable distribution of market stalls and shops, conduct a thorough verification and enumeration of traders, and maintain strict adherence to Local Government policies and revenue procedures. He emphasized the importance of preventing multiple allocations and unauthorized occupation of market spaces, while maintaining accurate and transparent records of all allocations and payments.

The Chairman further urged the Committee to foster effective collaboration with market leaders, revenue officers, and relevant departments to enhance operational efficiency and ensure regular progress reports are submitted to his office.

Highlighting the Committee’s wide scope of responsibility, Hon. Esewezie noted that its oversight covers all government-owned and approved markets within Oshimili North Local Government Area, including but not limited to Akwukwu-Igbo Market, Ibusa Market, Okpanam Market, Ugbolu Market, Ebu Market, Illah Market, Atuma Market, and Ukala Market.

In her response, the Committee Chairman, Barr. Stella Mejulu, expressed gratitude to Hon. Esewezie for the trust and confidence reposed in her and the team. She assured the Council of the Committee’s readiness to diligently execute its mandate, stating that, “to whom much is given, much is expected,” and pledged to uphold the principles of fairness and transparency in accordance with the defined terms of reference.
