The Executive Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Innocent Esewezie, had yesterday, September 2, convened a high-level stakeholders’ meeting comprising of the INEC Official, Chairmen of various political parties, community and religious leaders, and others to deliberate on strategies for improving voter registration and participation within the Local Government Area.

During the interactive session, the Council Boss emphasized the importance of ensuring that citizens are adequately sensitized on the ongoing Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) registration exercise. He maintained that effective awareness and mobilization are critical in enabling eligible residents to register and fully exercise their constitutional right to vote for candidates of their choice.

The meeting also provided an interactive platform with the INEC Electoral Officer for Oshimili North, Mr. Enyioma Mboma, who responded to stakeholders’ concerns while highlighting key challenges hindering the process, chief among them being the distance of the INEC office situated in Akwukwu-Igbo.

As part of the resolutions, Ward-by-Ward committees were inaugurated to lead grassroots mobilization and facilitate wider access to registration. In addition, the Council Chairman announced interim measures to provide buses for conveying residents to the registration centre, thereby easing transportation difficulties, pending further approval from INEC leadership at the state level for decentralized, ward-based registration.

In his closing remarks, Hon. Esewezie reaffirmed that broad participation in the voter registration exercise remains central to strengthening democratic governance in Oshimili North. He further assured that his administration will sustain robust collaboration with INEC and stakeholders to guarantee the success of the exercise.
