ONLGA CHAIRMAN BAGS AWARD OF EXCELLENCE FROM DELTA STATE CONTRIBUTORY HEALTH COMMISSION

The Executive Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area, Olorogun Hon. Chief Innocent Esewezie, on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, received an Award of Excellence from the Delta State Contributory Health Commission in recognition of his commitment to expanding access to health insurance and strengthening healthcare security for residents of the LGA.

The award was presented by the Commission’s Director-General, Hon. Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, during the commissioning of the ultramodern Sheriff Oborevwori Cottage Hospital, Okpanam, following the registration of hundreds of residents under the Delta State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme through the initiative of the council administration.

Dr. Akpoveta commended the council chairman’s proactive approach to combining healthcare infrastructure with sustainable health insurance coverage and urged other Local Government Areas to emulate the Oshimili North model in advancing Universal Health Coverage across Delta State.

The recognition further highlights the Esewezie-led administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery, complemented by the commencement of a six-day free medical and surgical outreach at the newly commissioned hospital, providing residents with access to free consultations, treatment and surgical procedures.

In his response, the Council Chairman appreciated the commission for the recognition while stating that his administration has in the past years during his 2-year tenure carried out a 6-Day free medical outreach in 2022; a 9-Day free medical and surgical outreach in 2023; and a 14-Day free medical and surgical outreach in 2025.
